My Dictionary

For words that should exist but don't or for words that do exist but I have given them the correct meaning.

Grady - from the Old French 'degrader', meaning yucky. A term to describe when something makes you feel gross inside. For example "I did not like that movie because it had several 'grady' sex scenes."

Verse - from the Latin root of the English word 'versus'. My daughter has invented the word verse and we think it is more appropriate than versus. For instance "I am going to 'verse' Dylan in soccer." We think this is a great word.

Poky - from the Latin, 'to poke, having the characteristics of'. When something is poking you. For instance "There is something 'poky' in my sock." My husband says this is not the correct use of the word to which I reply 'Stop poking my feelings.'

Suicyclist - from the Greek, meaning 'crazy operator'. A person riding a bike on a one-lane 100 km/hr road.

Baccalaureate - pronounced bach-al-lor-et. A degree you get when you are a bachelor or
Bachelorette

Stage 6 breach - military term describing a situation when all hope is lost. No lives will be saved by you staying so retreat is the only option.

Wimpathy - from the German root 'wimp'. A more accurate word for when a husband says he is having "sympathy pain".

Ellipticalling - From the Latin root for pointless circling. A verb for the action of circling your legs for exercise with out actually moving forward in space
